Being one of the few remaining bonfire events where an entry fee is not charged, Harrogate Round Table are reliant on the generosity of the public on the evening to donate as much as they can afford to this years supported charity which is Yorkshire Cancer Research.

This years’ community service chairman Paul Horner said:

“With around 11,000 people expected, this is by far the biggest single public gathering of the year in Harrogate. No Round Table volunteers get paid for any of the hard work that goes into planning this event, so the public can be assured that all the money they donate is going to a very worthy cause.  Without those donations, this event would sadly disappear.

Celebrating our 40th anniversary of organising this event, we always try to ensure a great warm family feel where everyone can watch the display in safety. You sense a real community spirit and it’s great to see so many families enjoying the event”

This year the event timings are:

Saturday 5th November

• 6.00pm – Stray FM buildup
• 6.30pm – Bonfire lit
• 7.15pm – Fireworks

Directions & Parking.

The bonfire is held on the grassy area known as the Stray directly to the south of the Empress pub which is HG1 4SP. The area can be viewed by typing the postcode into Google maps. There is limited parking in the immediate vicinity and this year we also have major road works on Oatlands Drive and York Place so the area is likely to be highly congested.

If you want to avoid being sat in lengthy queues, we strongly recommend leaving your vehicle in the town center (free parking after 6pm) and walking from there which is only around 15 mins, or take public transport where possible. Why not make an evening of it by having a bite to eat in one of the many local award winning restaurants?

PARKING ON THE GRASS AREAS OF THE STRAY IS STRICTLY PROHIBITED.

Just ‘B’, part of St Michael’s Hospice, is a bereavement support service that offers a safe and confidential space for people to understand and express their grief. Just ‘B’ offers practical support to children as well as adults and information and advice for professionals working with the bereaved. With the right support at the right time children and adults can find a way to understand their grief and look forward to the future, remembering their departed loved one in a healthy and positive way.

• £5,000 to the Special Care Baby Unit of Harrogate Hospital following our 20 mile sponsored canoe trip from Boroughbridge to York
• £6,000 to Martin House (£630 was raised via Martin House’s text to pledge on the night of the Harrogate Bonfire)

Fireworks Display 2010

The 2010 Harrogate Bonfire & Fireworks display raised £5,630 for Martin House. As many as 10,000 people braved the icy chill for the display which was visible for miles around.

This year’s charity collection goes to Martin House Children’s Hospice in Boston Spa. If you enjoyed the fireworks but didn’t have any change on the night you can still donate to Martin House using their text-to-pay facility.

There were a few changes to the Bonfire this year mainly having a smaller bonfire lit earlier and setting the fireworks to music. Please do let us know what you think of the event.

The bonfire is this Saturday 6th November on Oatlands Stray. There are no tickets or any charge but a collection will be held in aid of Martin House. Please give generously!
